Being a multimedia intern during Covid was certainly an interesting experience. Going out and filming at University events helped me feel connected with the UConn community, even though many of our fellow students were at home and learning remotely. My favorite memory was filming HuskyTHON - capturing everyone's dedication to raising money for Connecticut Children's Medical Center filled me with such pride for our community. I learned so much with all types of filming equipment I would not have had access to otherwise. It really made me live my senior year to the fullest. Overall, my time at University Communications was very rewarding.

My time at University Communications was the highlight of my UConn experience. What was required of me was a willingness to learn, and what I got out of it was the invaluable skill of storytelling. As a filmmaker, there are unlimited resources available to learn the technical side of the art. But the ability to tell stories is what ultimately got me full-time positions at multiple respectable institutions. The staff at University Communications is talented, patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in video production look to University Communications for opportunities.

The time I spent at UConn Communications was one of my best UConn memories, not only because of the friendly and supportive working atmosphere my colleagues gave me, but also because it was the most valuable opportunity for me to really get closer to the UConn campus, both physically and psychologically. My initial thought in applying for UComm's internship was to try to gain some experience in video production, which is no doubt my passion. However, later on, I found that being an intern at UComm was never just about a job, but actually the time to find the beauty of UConn life. Throughout those exciting projects, I walked into the forest of UConn, shared the energy with people through multiple event recordings, saw the beauty of UConn from various perspectives, and witnessed the birth of one creative filming idea after another by working with my talented colleagues. Even after graduating several years ago, those projects I made and the memories I experienced are still the things that I'm most proud of.

As a multimedia intern at UConn, I had the opportunity to work in a professional environment creating videos for UConn's social media. I spent the majority of my time filming and editing videos, but I also was given the opportunity to accompany my supervisors on their own video projects and learn from their techniques. I was surrounded by a supportive team who I could easily ask for help or guidance. Their feedback encouraged me to try different approaches and strategies during my own projects. It was also super helpful that I had access to equipment like tripods, camera lenses, and GoPros on a daily basis. Overall, it was a great experience for me, because I gained new skills and was able to come out of it with a few published videos.

My student role as a Social Media Content Producer offered me tremendous opportunities to develop my digital skill set and gain valuable experience. The position offered great exposure to high-impact digital communication campaigns, with the ability to learn from the UConn team while working on unique, fun projects with fellow students. It was a huge part of my UConn experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to advance their skills in a great team environment!

I received indispensable mentorship from Angie and the entire UConnTV staff. With their backgrounds in commercial production, narrative film, television news, and more, the skills to be learned and industry insight offered by the team are vast. Not only did their hands-on instruction rival my classes, but unlike other internships, I was actually trained to step up and become a true member of the team, regularly producing highly-viewed pieces of content for the UConn community. Telling stories about an institution as diverse as this one is an incredible opportunity. I created music videos with student groups, documented scientific advancement and discovery, shot sporting events, and worked on the set of a national TV spot. My experience allowed me to understand and harness the power of video within a large community, and this led me to professional success. I'm now proud to run my own video production business and lead a multimedia staff at a performing arts center, with two regional Emmys under my belt. I attribute much of this to my start with UConnTV.
