Our writers — each responsible for specific University beats — weave compelling narratives to publicize important information about the institution and its programs, faculty, and students. These stories, which are enhanced by masterful videos and captivating photographs shot and edited by our staff, are the starting point for UConn’s external communications efforts. We offer a mobile-friendly site with rich photo and video capabilities and easy story sharing on social media and University websites. Each week, the top stories are distributed via an email newsletter that reaches more than 60,000 people. UConn 360, an award-winning podcast produced in our audio studio by University Communications staffers, helps spread the word in audio format.
Media Relations & National Reputation
Our news team shares the news of UConn’s excellence with the world, leveraging partnerships with local outlets and making big pitches to national media to attain coverage of UConn’s research, accomplishments, and downright interesting stories. Our communicators are the go-to sources of institutional information for journalists, answering their questions when news breaks and connecting reporters with faculty experts for features and in-depth stories. A partnership with academic news outlet The Conversation has garnered 17.1 million views on stories authored by UConn faculty by getting them placed in top media outlets, and our partnership with ExpertFile — the world’s largest curated database of subject matter experts — has connected UConn faculty with journalists at national and international news outlets.
Media Training
Our media training is designed to make UConn faculty feel comfortable, capable, and confident in speaking with news media, and covers topics including social media, how to establish a reputation as a subject matter expert in the media, and responding to negative attention.
